Elena Kleyn about the events in Odessa

I will try to describe how everything happened, because there will be versions in the media that will contradict it. So here it goes.

Recently, it has become a common situation in our country, that ultras of football teams join each other in marching for the unity of the state. Today, such an event was scheduled to begin in the Sobor square in Odessa. Since it was anticipated that a hit song about Putin will be performed by its authors, other people decided to join.

Suddenly, ‘colorados’ (pro-russian activists) appeared from the direction of the market store ‘Afina’ . First of all, they began throwing stones at ultras, then they started shooting. Ultras responded by throwing stones. Then the self-defence of Maidan an militia arrived. Part of the latter formed a chain and took stand between both conflicting sides. The other part of militia began arming ‘colorados’ with shields and clubs.

The result – one of the ultras was killed and dozens were wounded. Gunfire is opened from the direction of the market store ‘Afina’. The numbers of killed and wounded victims are growing. Four are already dead. When the ‘Sokol’ squad arrived, they began catching ‘colorados’ and dragging them from ‘Afina’, people went to the the field of Kulikov to remove the ‘colorado’ camp. Because that was too much.

‘Colorados’ entrenched themselves in the labor union building, near the Kulikov field and opened fire from the rooftop. They used guns, Molotov cocktails and pieces of welded armature. If such a lump fell on your head from the rooftop, you would be instantly killed.

According to various sources, the labor union building caught fire either from the burning tents or from poorly thrown Molotov cocktails (although, it is possible that both scenarios are correct). The outcome of the day – 39 dead. Most of them suffocated in the labor union building, while others were being moved from it and transferred to the militia and the doctors (depending on their condition).

Large collection of weapons was found in the building after the fire – iron bludgeons, machine guns and rifles.

All my acquaintances and family are healthy and alive, thanks to those who cared. The essential idea declared in Odessa today – we will not allow a second Slavyansk to happen in Odessa. Odessa is Ukraine. You better don’t mess with us. We were patient for a long time, but there is a limit. Glory to Ukraine!

Operation Update, 8.15 AM, 2nd of May

According to ‘InfoResist’ data from the field, in areas of Slavyansk controlled by mutineers, personal transport of locals is being hastily expropriated to stage a suspected break through out of besieged city.

Also we have noticed signs of panic between petty criminals participating in terrorist activity in Slavyansk. These paid criminals it seems are not prepared to fight against Ukrainian military force for the ‘big ideas from Moscow’.

Operation update, 7.30 AM, 2nd of May

According to ‘InfoResist’ data, Ukrainian forces are controlling the majority of Slavyansk while continuing the active phase of anti-terrorist operation. At this moment, checkpoints of terrorists are pulled apart and the television center of the city is under control.

Terrorists are trying to escape. The main sources of resistance are located in the southeastern part of the city.

During the operation, Ukrainian Mi-24 helicopter was shot down by terrorists . A second helicopter flying together, managed to safely retreat.

 

Informational leaflet for Ukrainians in East Ukraine

Ukrainian soldiers are sprinkling informational leaflets from helicopters for citizens living in East Ukraine. Below are the text from one of these leaflets:

For the peaceful part of population in Kramatorsk and Slavyansk regarding the SURVIVAL in the territories where RUSSIAN TERRORISTS ARE ACTIVE

Peaceful citizens of Kramatorsk and Slavyansk, your home country has turned into a training area of Russian saboteurs testing their punitive actions, terrorist activity and preparing for provocations with huge civil casualties!

To protect yourselves and your relatives and to end the terror as quickly as possible please observe the following rules:

1. Under no circumstances approach demonstrations (even if they are small) that are taking place in front of the captured administrative buildings – your presence is helping the terrorists. You become a live shield and a hostage. The more casualties there are, the better it is for the Russian saboteurs, and surely this image will be broadcasted on the Russian mass media.

2. Do not listen to those who advocate federalization and separatism in the streets, who is urging to storm the government buildings – these are corrupt activists receiving 1000 Hrivnas per day.

3. If you see sportsmanlike youth, people with military outfit moving in or towards the captured buildings or people of any age and appearance bringing grocery bags to them – please inform about this the nearest member of police, army, anti-terrorist troops or SBU. If you don’t have such possibility please call the hotline number below.

4. Under no circumstances enlist in any formations of groups – Russian special services will be using your data against you for blackmail and trying to force you to participate in illegal actions and support of terrorists.

5. Avoid places of people gatherings – there are militants of Russian special forces among the demonstrators who must physically eliminate everybody who is trying to criticize the efforts of Russia. They will try to use you as live shield the same way as the Soviet occupants in the period of 1941-1945.

6. Restrain your relatives, acquaintances from supporting terrorists and participating in anti-Ukrainian protests – by doing this you will protect their lives and health. Terrorists consider all participants of the demonstrations as potential casualties, they also received orders to kill peaceful citizens trying to contact the government.

Regarding a killed member of Gorlovka municipality

As most of you already know, two bodies were found on April 19th near city of Slavyansk, in the river of Seversky Donets. One of the bodies was identified as Vladimir Rybak, a municipal member of Gorlovka, and part of Batkivshchyna political party. (Please note: not an ex-chairman of Rada, just a namesake.)
Because of these killings, Ukrainian government has decided to deactivate and even intensify the Anti Terrorist Operation.

Many torture marks by knifes and burning were found on both bodies. According to the Law enforcement, there are two witnesses claiming that torture was carried out in one of the buildings controlled  by the Russian saboteurs, in the city of Slavyansk. During the tortures buildings were guarded by same little green men, i.e., insurgent Russian GRU units.

On April 19th, mutineers and partial media have announced the bodies discovered were victims of the Right sector Slavyansk shootout. Later, newly emerged facts proved shootout to be staged, claiming one completely unconnected civilian casualty.

At least one US journalist is currently missing in Slavyansk, suspected kidnapping.

Vladimir Rybak was kidnapped on 17th of April after a verbal confrontation with mutineers in Gorlovka. Confrontation happened right after a rally for Ukrainian unity, when Vladimir Rybak, a member of the municipality tried to enter the municipal building. According to eyewitnesses reports police were present but did not intervene.

Vladimir Rybak was known in Gorlovka for speaking his mind and not being scared to tell other politicians off.
