Aidar batallion’s statement regarding the ambush

Via Batallion Aidar FB and Reddit (translation by Samarras).

The two fronts of Aidar

You have to know how to fight a war. Especially when the war takes place on two fronts. “Aidar” batallion can handle that too. We consciously took a break in the information space, waiting for official commentary concerning the events of 17-06-2014. Our prediction came true. The commentary is as far from the truth as the leadership’s wish to complete the ATO quickly. Let’s start.

First front

With great pomp and noise the generals were going to take over Metallist (a village adjacent to Lugansk). Into which as recently as three days ago entered our paratroopers and found nothing. Separatists, tortured by Aidar’s activity in Schastie, just ran away. Instead of the order to “gain foothold, dig in, defend, wait for reinforcement” they got a rude order to retreat. Paratroopers’ commander looked like… when he was telling me about it. And now the uniformed eggheads(i.e. generals) were going to earn great bonuses and fame for their considerable military talents in wasting a sizable amount of ammunition and their skills of shooting at hummingbirds (spoiler: it worked really well).

So, one quiet Ukrainian night, a mortar battery dug in for dealing a decisive morning blow to Metallist. Nobody bothered to set up guards(“Why?”). From the golf club’s direction, a group of about 30 “colorados” started to move closer in order to take over the battery(“How did they find out about it?”). The adjacent checkpoint, housing Aidar’s patrol unit, decided to check the movements in the neutral area inside its responsibility zone. It met resistance, and the situation ended up as Aidar fighting while surrounded. They had 3 times more people than us and the battle lasted for 2.5 hours till sunrise, until the armored infantry unit (regular army) started to execute the generals’ plan and moved towards Metallist. The terrorists retreated and the mortar battery was saved. Armored infantry continued its victorious march until strengthened block-post of the separatists and got into a well-prepared ambush (“Who told them the plans?”).

ATO bottom line (from the generals)

One tank burned and deserted. One APC burned, second APC with a jammed clutch. Two BMPs deserted under battle circumstances.

The ATO HQ summoned an Aidar sotnya(century) for help, as it was the only nearby reserve force. Quick march by crawling (literally) under sniper and machine gun fire on an open terrain (all our losses came from this) was completed in a shortest time, and the batallion engaged the enemy as soon as it could take positions in the wheat fields and the forest.

Thanks for help to the helicopter pilots, tank and artillery personnel. Everything worked well. They didn’t let them to hit us from mobile mortars. We don’t know whom to “thank” for the lack of communication equipment and the lack of coordination with other units. Special thanks to L’vov paratroopers, that had arrived when we already on the edge of exhaustion, to precise anti-aircraft gunners and RPG men and all brothers in arms, who helped to finally repeal the bandits. And also thanks to the population, that has been texting us all night about the enemy locations and movements.

ATO bottom line (from Aidar).

Mortar battery saved. Both APCs and both BMPs, “lost” by the generals, were taken back (separatists managed to take away the tank). AGS, recoilless gun, anti-aircraft gun, a variety of RPGs, small arms and ammunition: taken. (Photos will be published. After all we are in a battle, not in a studio). Under 30 terrorists were terminated. Metallist was taken. Our batallion lost 4 dead and twelve wounded (three of them are heavily wounded, life not threatened), a few people taken prisoners. Aidar has won again. Despite…

The price of one Aidar fighter for one armored unit we consider too high. Our fallen ones are worth more. And we will charge this price!

Second front

Aidar suffered no losses, until called into battle by the generals… (To be continued)

P.S. This post was written by a man who participated in this battle. On the various videos it’s not Aidar. Aidar still has no armored cars of its own.

Donbass is founded by Europeans. Russian roots are only separatist tales

Considering the Donbas history, current actions look absurd, as the present East Ukraine never in its history was undeveloped or abandoned region, quite the opposite – Donbas, like other regions of Ukraine, is historically closely related to Europe. It would be understandable if the fanatic anti-Europe actions were taking place in some purely Russian regions, in Valday district or in some ancient Siberian villages, but when such thoughts occupy the minds of people living in the region which was practically settled and built by the emigrants from Western Europe, that is the real irony of history. Sadly, citizens of miners’ villages that are standing at the barricades erected from tires, logs and iron spikes are barely able to understand the scope of thins historical anecdote due to their lack of historical knowledge. They consider Donbas a soviet region, Russian territory, which must be saved from so much hated “Gay-rope”. But just a hundred years ago Donbas was practically a European enclave within the Russian Empire.

Dmitry Tymchuk: Regarding the armed fight involving the Donbas Battalion on May 23 near Karlivka

Translated and edited by Voices of Ukraine

Using different sources and having coordinated the information received with the leadership of the Donbass Battalion, we, the Information Resistance group, have reconstructed the chain of events that received a great public outcry.

[Here’s the chain of events] in general, omitting the details.

10 to 15 minutes after the start of the military engagement, the personnel of the Donbass Battalion realized that it was in a carefully organized ambush. The locations of enemy firing positions were carefully considered, the sniper work indicated their high level of professional training.

The high level of organization of the ambush in an area where the activity of the ATO forces had not been noted before, suggests that the terrorists received information about the movement of the Donbass Battalion in advance.

Shortly after the start of the fight, the terrorist reinforcement arrived. According to our data, a little earlier a motorcade with armed men (judging by appearance–from the Caucasus) left Donetsk and moved towards the scene.

Reinforcements were armed with assault rifles of the AK-100 series (which is in service with the Russian army, while the Armed Forces of Ukraine and other legitimate armed forces of Ukraine do not have such weapons) and PK machine guns, at least one of them has been identified as a NSV-12.7 caliber heavy machine gun “the Rock.” Terrorists also used RGN grenades with a fuse (intermediary detonator) DPU (“shock remote fuse”)–which are used by the Russian army.

Appeals from the Donbass Battalion to the ATO leadership didn’t bring any results. There were promises to send the armored vehicles and rescue aircraft, but ultimately no assistance was given.

Also (this includes our efforts) the commanders of almost all the law enforcement agencies were informed about the events occurring near Karlivka, which participated in the ATO. It likewise, had no effect.

At the same time, we have evidence that one of the units of the Armed Forces in the area of the ATO team received orders to advance towards Karlivka and assist the Donbass Battalion. For unknown reasons, this order wasn’t carried out. Currently, we are carefully checking this information.

Ultimately, the Donbass Battalion fought in a battle that lasted 4.5 hours, alone. The personnel of the Battalion suffered casualties. Battalion fighters have identified that at least 15 terrorists were destroyed.

According to available information, the Battalion left the environs on its own: without any outside help received–either from the ATO forces, or from other forces.

The commander of the battalion “Donbass” spoke about the situation in the battalion

Source: inforesist.org

From Semen Semenchenko via a phone:

Yesterday was a hard day for the battalion “Donbass”. Our brothers were killed and wounded. But the life goes on. The battalion “Donbass” belongs to people, who link their hopes with us, hopes that sooner or later a peaceful life will return and a new Ukraine will be built.

For this reason I will answer the questions briefly.

1. I was not imprisoned, no prisoners were killed.

2. The main question of today is the fate of our wounded, who are really in danger.

3. We must take care of the patriots who gave their life in fight for Ukraine. In the near future I will tell about every one of them (apart from those, whose family may suffer from the disclosed information).

All these people will be buried as soldiers, with military honors, their families will be provided with all the necessary financial support, I ask people to help me with this.

The battalion “Donbaas” is outside politics and does not represent anyone but Ukrainian people, who want to establish the peace as soon as possible and achieve a better life on their land.

We have people from all regions of Ukraine, different nationalities, faiths and political preferences. There are those who do not belong to any party, there are supporters of the BYT, Solidarnost, Udar, there are people who support the “Right Sector”. They all took part in yesterday’s battle, fought bravely, tried to rescue their comrades, one of them was wounded, but to fight against armoured vehicles and professional snipers one needs regular Army units and none of them came to help us.

We are grateful to all patriots of Ukraine, regardless of their political views who jointed our ranks to defend our motherland.

They defend not only the right of people to peace in their country but also their right to freely defend their political views.

P.S. I would like to share the last news. Today two of our comrades, residents of the Donetsk region, who we thought to be dead, came back.
